Our vision is to create an international childen’s film festival in Singapore, to provide children, aged 2-18, with quality and culturally diverse films made for kids, about kids and sometimes, by kids. Our goal is to raise media literacy among children by encouraging film appreciation, increasing their knowledge of the craft of filmmaking and providing a platform for children in Singapore to screen their own films. In line with our mission, we also offer filmmaking and animation workshops for children as young as 5 years-old. All our workshops are run by professionals in their field, some of them acclaimed filmmakers from abroad. The festival also introduces a unique filmmaking competition, open to kids 5-16 years old, residing in Singapore. This is to encourage kids to use filmmaking as a way of creatively expressing themselves, an art that is increasingly relevant in this age of digital technology.

Why do children need their own film festival?

Just as children need their own books and theatre, it is important for children to watch films that are age-appropriate, with relevant content that will engage their interest, stimulate their imagination and encourage critical thinking. Anyone who has ever spent time with a young child will realize that moving images have the amazing ability to fully capture a child’s attention. For this reason, it is important to provide kids with films that are value-affirming and enriching. Films are a good way of getting children to think about the world they live in, about their own everyday experiences and about important themes. Films also stretch children’s imagination by bringing to life colourful worlds populated by animals and characters who are larger than life.
